10 Bites & sights at Killiney Rd Pt 1

Killiney Road is an offshoot of Orchard Road extending from Somerset Road to River Valley Road. The Killiney Road aread has a lot of character with shophouses, quaint residences, greenery and, most importantly, many eateries.

Visit Killiney Road to see a blend of old and new and to taste various delicacies of the same.

1. Shophouse Architecture

Before you get to the food, enjoy the colonial shophouse architecture at Killiney Road.

The shophouses were constructed widely between 1840 and 1960, and the area was a place of business for the new immigrants of Singapore then, with living quarters on the upper floors of the shophouses.

Nasi Padang and jazz go so well together.

At the famous Warong M Nasir (formerly at Liang Seah Street), try some of the delectable Indonesian nasi padang dishes such as rendang, sambal goreng, sayur lodeh, ikan bakar and gulai ayam.

Amidst the good food and charming shophouse ambience, strains of bossa nova and jazz ease your mind. Warong M Nasir is easy to spot with red walls, at 69 Killiney Road.

Need a perk-up for your shopping energy? Killiney Kopitiam is a renowned classic coffeeshop serving local breakfast fare.

Half-boiled eggs, kaya toast, French toast, chicken curry with french loaf, and kopi and teh are among the items that you can fill up on.

There are a few branches now but the main one is at 67 Killiney Road.

Local favourites can be found at the corner coffee shop, S-11 Food House, at 117 Killiney Road. Whether you’re craving for noodles or zi char or prata or Indian rojak, this is a typical coffeeshop to grab a bite.

There are other S-11 outlets in other parts of the island.

Retirees meet regularly for the good Teochew Porridge Buffet at Crystal Café at 131 Killiney Road.

Nowadays, the younger generation joins in as the buffet spread has grown to include a large spread of delights. If you love Teochew muay, you have to come here.

If you’re in the area and you feel like having a snack, how about a good char siew pau from Teck Kee Tanglin Pau at 83 Killiney Road?

Or, how about a spicy Malay epok epok (curry puff) from Killiney Curry Puff at 93 Killiney Road, where they handmake their own?
